Wrapping Up Another Successful Softball Season

The 2014 campaign was another historic season for Shonda Stanton and Marshall softball

2008 (Junior):
Started in all 55 games as a junior...second best batting average hitting .360 and in hits as well with 62...finished the season with nine doubles, three homeruns and 25 RBIs...leads returning players in runs with 26...hit 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs against Ohio State, April 2...went 6-for-11 in the series against UTEP with a homerun...hit 3-for-3 against UAB April 13 with two RBIs and two runs...went 2-for-5 with a homerun, two RBIs and two runs against Georgetown...had 17 multi-hit games...had seven multi-RBI games...named to the NFCA Midwest All-Region second team...received All C-USA Second Team honors.

2007 (Sophomore):
Became an everyday player for the Herd starting in 54 contests...improved hitting stats in every category including 37 hits, three doubles and 13 RBI...only player on the team to record a triple and ended with a .345 slugging percentage...hit 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI against Western Carolina, Feb. 23...recorded first career double in the series opener with East Carolina, March 24...had five multi-hit performances....went a combined 4-for-8 with three RBI, two doubles and two runs in a three-game series with Memphis.

2006 (Freshman):
Made her first career start in right field in the Herd's 8-0 season-opening win over Mississippi Valley State Feb. 10...went 1-for-3 with two RBI...started six consecutive games to begin the season...combined to go 3-for-7 with one run scored in two games against Eastern Kentucky on Feb. 11...went 1-for-3 in at Alabama Feb. 12.

High School:
Was a four-year letterwinner for head coach Wendy Close at Cascade HS...also lettered a year in volleyball...batted .583 with a .783 slugging percentage (.671 on-base) during senior season...was a two-time MVP...named Most Inspirational as senior...named to the Washington All-Star team...named to the Seattle Times All-Area Team, and was a three-time first team All-WESCO selection and a second team All-WESCO pick...also a first team All-Area and second team All-State selection...played summer ball for the Washington Hurricanes....member of National Honor Society and was on the honor roll from 2000-04.

Full name is Rachael Irene Marie Sofie...born on October 24, 1986...daughter of Rob and Debbie Sofie...has an older brother, Robert (24), and an older sister, Jillian (27)...majoring in dietetics with a minor in exercise physiology.
