Williamson Earns C-USA Pitcher of the Week|
April 22, 2013
HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – Senior Andi Williamson has been honored by Conference USA for her record-breaking performances against Ohio on Wednesday, April 17. Williamson was acknowledged twice in 2012 and is accepting her third all-time conference recognition this week. She is one of the few hurlers to receive the honor multiple times in their Marshall softball career.
Williamson went 2-0 against Ohio last week, improving the Thundering Herd’s record to 29-17, while striking out 28 batters, surrendering just two hits in 13.0 innings and posting a 0.00 ERA. Williamson earned her sixth shutout victory of the season – 16th of her career – in game one of the doubleheader with a 4-0 win, striking out 16 batters – nine consecutively. In game two, she entered in the second inning with a two-run deficit on her shoulders and did not allow a hit, giving Marshall a chance to take the game, 3-2. With the 12 strike outs in the second contest, she extended her season total to 300. She held the Bobcats to a .047 batting average and broke the Herd’s all-time records for strikeouts in a single game, wins in a season and strikeouts in a season.
She set the all-time strikeout record at 14 against UTEP March 31, 2012, matched it this season against Quinnipiac Feb. 23 and has now broken it with 16. Williamson had previously set the all-time win record at 25 last season and now holds 26 thus far in the 2013 season. Sara Gulla previously held the all-time season strikeout record with 270, but Williamson surpassed that number and continues to set a new record with every strikeout from here on out, currently sitting at 300.
Williamson will step into the circle again Saturday, April 27 in Birmingham, Ala., where she and the Herd will face UAB’s squad in a three-game conference series.
