Braxton to Play Against U.S. National Team
Herd standout will participate as member of Virginia Collegiate All Stars

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-Marshall’s Shaelynn Braxton has been invited to participate as a member of the Virginia Collegiate All Stars in a doubleheader exhibition against the U.S. national team on Thursday at Fireman’s Field in Purcellville, Va.
The event is hosted by the Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, Piedmont Amateur Softball Association and USA Softball. Gates open at 5 p.m. with first pitch set for 6:30.
Braxton, a Woodbridge, Va. native, earned the third base position on the Mideast Region first team and a spot on the Conference USA second team.
Braxton was also named to the C-USA All-Tournament team and was the first Herd player with 50+ RBI (57) in a single season since Samantha Rodriguez posted 55 in 2007. Her other end-of-season totals in total bases (129), slugging percentage (.718), extra-base hits (31) and home runs (16) were the best Marshall had seen since Rachel Folden played for the Herd from 2005-08. Folden had 129 total bases in 2006, a .902 slugging percentage in 2008, 38 extra base hits in 2008 and 18 home runs in 2006.
The exhibition games are the final tryout event before 17 players are selected to the 2014 USA Softball Women's World championship team. The roster will be announced June 22.
