Softball Lil' Sis Program Now Available for 2012-13 Season|
Sept. 13, 2012
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall softball has announced that the 13th year of their popular Lil’ Sis program is now available for the 2012-13 season.
The program is open to young girls in grades 1-8. Each lil’ sis adopts a player on the Thundering Herd roster who will be their friend, role model and mentor.
Since head coach Shonda Stanton created the program it has rose in participants each year and has seen multiple young girls return year-after-year to be part of this unique experience.
Some of the program benefits for members include an adoption certificate, t-shirt, at least two letters a month from the big sister, team schedule poster, participation in select pre-game locker room activities, and the annual Lil’ Sis day, which includes on-field introduction with their Herd softball player.
Current Marshall assistant coach Amanda Williams, who acts as the coordinator for the program and was a big sis during her time in the Herd uniform, says this program provides unforgettable memories for many young girls.
“The lil sis program is something our student-athletes really enjoy as it’s a chance for them to serve as role models and mentors,” said Williams. “Our team takes great pride in the relationships they build and the opportunity provided to the young girls to dream of being in their shoes one day.”
To join the program, interested participants should fill out the lil’ sis brochure found at the top of the page and on HerdZone.com. A $20 membership fee is required. Should two or more friends wish to sign-up at the same time, a $5 discount will apply to each girl’s fee.
