HAVE YOU HERD?
Dot Hicks Field will debut many new faces this season. Coach Shonda Stanton is alongside two new coaches, Chanda Bell and Kendall Fearn. The three are building on previous successes with a team of eight true freshman, one redshirt freshman, seven sophomores, two juniors and two seniors.

Savanah Webster (Las Vegas) and Taylor Winton (Federal Way, Wash.) have quickly slid into their senior roles on the team. Eight newcomers will seek opportunities to contribute in the young season.

QUEENS OF DIAMONDS
The Herd will start off the 2013-14 year right – as reigning 2013 Conference USA Champions. Marshall clinched its first C-USA Championship in a 3-1 victory against Houston May 11.

The Herd’s momentum carried into its first regional appearance, where it took two teams into extra innings and claimed its first victory in an NCAA Regional against Notre Dame (3-1).

Marshall hasn't seen action since May 18, when it was knocked out of the NCAA Lexington, Ky., Regional in 13 innings against Virginia Tech (3-2).  The 2012-13 team made it further than any other in Marshall softball history.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
Shawnee State has nine newcomers on its roster and returns nine student-athletes. These two contests will be a first meeting between the teams.

The Bears have played two exhibition games and currently stand 0-2 in the fall season. Morehead State defeated Shawnee State 3-5 and 2-5 in a doubleheader Sept. 14.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Ohio features five newcomers and returns 14 players. The Herd faced the Bobcats in the 2013 season and defeated Ohio in both games April 17 (4-0, 3-2). In this matchup, Marshall softball alumna Andi Williamson (Harts, W.Va.) had a record-breaking day – striking out 28 in the two games, 16 in game one.

The Bobcats ended the 2013 season in the final game of the Mid-American Conference Championship, where they fell to Ball State, 7-6.

Ohio will open its fall season against the Herd, Sunday.

UP NEXT
The Herd will return from Ohio to play at “The Dot” Oct. 6. The Marshall squad will host University of Charleston and Ohio Valley in a three-game series.
