Herd Softball Announces Seventh Annual Diamond Club Banquet

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall softball continues its great tradition of the Diamond Club Banquet for the 2018 season as the Herd welcomes reigning three-time National Pro Fastpitch MVP Kelly Kretschman as the keynote speaker. The annual dinner will be held Saturday, Feb. 3 in the Don Morris Room of the Memorial Student Center.
“We are thrilled to continue the Diamond Club Banquet,” Herd head coach Jen Steele said. “We are honored to welcome our keynote speaker, arguably the sport’s all-time greatest hitter, in Kelly Kretschman. Kelly has had a long and storied career and will relate well to the Marshall faithful.”

Kretschman has been playing in the NPF since 2005, playing for the USSSA Pride since 2009. The talented outfielder has been a part of five Cowles Cup Championships along with winning the league player of the year the past three seasons.
The Indian Harbor Beach, Fla., native began her softball career at the University of Alabama and was a four-time All-American. A dangerous offensive threat who could hit and run, Kretschman finished her four years in Tuscaloosa with 368 hits, 60 homers, 191 runs batted in and 133 stolen bases. She struck out only 54 times in 842 at-bats. Kretschman hit .437 for her collegiate career.
She has spent time with Team USA as well beginning back in 2000 while she was still in school. Krestchman was with the Gold Medal winning squad at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece, and the Silver Medal winners at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. During those two years with Team USA, Kretschman’s hitting prowess was on full display as she combined to hit. 450 with 98 RBI, 18 home runs, 27 doubles and four triples.
During Kretschman’s 11-year career in the NPF, she is a .361 hitter with 434 hits, 52 home runs and 72 doubles. She hit .488 for the Pride in 2017.
“In addition this year, we are adding a live auction for the first time,” coach Steele said. “It will be an exciting night, being able to join our supporters to kick off the 2018 season with Team 25. We hope you will join us and Go Herd!”
Head Coach Jen Steele enters her first season with the Herd. This season, Marshall features a strong senior class with Elicia D’Orazio (2017 NCAA Golden Shoe Award winner), Taylor McCord, Eloise Tribolet, Madi Marshall, Jordan Colliflower and Caitlin Gale. The junior class features Abigail Tolbert, Samantha Loose, Ali Burdette, Hayden Ellis, Abigail Estrada and Briana Daiss. The sophomores this season are returner Kailee Williamson and a transfer from USC Upstate in Blakely Burch. The freshman class is an all-around talented group with Armani Brown, Wylie Glover, Gabby Stewart, Tatum Ksiazek, Grayson Radcliffe, Rachel Rousseau, Samantha Koehn, Aly Harrell and Katie Adams.
Marshall begins the 2018 season on Thursday, Feb. 8 at Auburn.
