@HerdSwimDive Completes Day One of MU Invite

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall swimming and diving team completed the first day of the MU Invite on Friday evening at the Fredrick A. Fitch Natatorium.
“I’m very happy with the times that we went today,” head coach Bill Tramel said. “It certainly sets us up well for our conference championship in the next couple of weeks. We’re going to get some rest tonight and comeback and be ready for day two, and hopefully continue this train moving.”
Marshall placed first in five of the eight events held in the non-scoring competition. The Herd featured lifetime bests for Angelica di Marzio, Gloriya Mavrova, Rachel DePietro, Jordyn O’Dell, Bree Mury, Hannah Robins, Brittany Wilkerson, Madeline Schaffer and Shir Wasserman.
The Thundering Herd placed first and second in the 1650 freestyle. Di Marzio swam a lifetime best by finishing first at 17:02.61. The time ranks seventh in Conference USA this season. Teel Hartmann placed in second at 17:07.49.
Marshall continued to roll in the 200 freestyle, as it earned the top six spots. Madi Pulfer won the race with a time of 1:50.99. Mavrova (1:52.25) and Depietro (1:53.02) had lifetime bests.
In the 100 backstroke, Marshall finished with the top five swimmers. Sirena Rowe earned the first place finish with a time of 55.42. O’Dell (55.67) and Mury (57.91) recorded lifetime bests.
Catherine Bendziewicz had a second place finish in the 100 breaststroke for the Thundering Herd. She touched in at 1:04.93.
Caroline Wanner won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:05.99. Following Wanner was Robbins (2:06.48) and Wilkerson (2:07.52) with lifetime bests.
Marshall closed out the night with a top 3 finish in the 200 IM. Emma Lockyer finished first at 2:05.56. Schaffer (2:06.23) and Wasserman (2:07.29) had lifetime bests and finished second and third, respectively.
