Marshall competes in two events on day one
Feb. 15, 2012
Houston, Texas – Strong performances from Marshall in day one of the Conference USA Championships got the Thundering Herd off to a strong start in the four day event.
In the first event of this season’s championships, Marshall would post a time of 1:46.08 in 200-yard Medley Relay, which was two seconds faster from the season best time. The group of Vera Niemeyer, Madison Lawhorn, Sarah Kay, and Lauren Hurd recorded the second fastest in Marshall swimming history.
During the 800-yard Freestyle Relay, the foursome of Kaley Gregory, Heather Moore, Emily Heniken, and Tiffany Aeling dropped eight seconds off the season best time with a final mark of 7:41.59. That time is the eighth fastest time in Thundering Herd swimming history.
Each grouping received 26 points for a total of 52 so far in the meet.
Head Coach Russell Hunt was very pleased after his team’s showing on day one, "What a great way to get things kicked off. The relays both dropped enormous amounts of time from the regular season, and watching these ladies operate, I have no doubt that our best swims still lie ahead."
Hunt and his ladies are back in action tomorrow with the prelims of the 500-yard Freestyle, 200-yard Individual Medley, 50-yard Freestyle, and Three-Meter Diving. The finals of the 400-yard Medley Relay will cap of the session.
