HOUSTON, Texas-The Marshall swimming/diving squad stands fifth overall with 54 points after the first day of competition at the 2013 Swimming/Diving Championships at the University of Houston Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium.
"We had a nice evening tonight," said Herd coach Bill Tramel. "Both of our relays swam well. Our 200 Medley Relay was a season best and our 800 Free Relay was the 3rd fastest relay in school history. Even better, the 800 was almost six full seconds faster than we were at last year's Conference USA Championships."
Relays were the name of the game Wednesday as Kelsey Ferguson, Madison Lawhorn, Arlie Rykosky and Danica Ross finished fifth in the 200 Medley Relay in a time of 1:46.63.
The quartet of Kacey Preun, Kaley Gregory, Tiffany Aeling and Sarah Coghlin took sixth in the 800 Freestyle Relay in a time of 7:35.22.
In that 800 Free Relay, Kacey Preun
led off in 1:51. 84, her lifetime best by almost two seconds.
"We can be better tomorrow. To do this, we need to execute our races better. If we can do that, we will be significantly faster as the meet goes on."
Four events are on the slate for Thursday, which includes the 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free and 3-meter diving competition.
Day 2 is set to begin at 10 a.m. CT.
