HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall swimming and diving will return to action over the next two days with back-to-back quad meets in Indianapolis, Ind.
Both meets will be hosted by IUPUI inside their Natatorium.
On Friday, along with the Jaguars, the Thundering Herd (2-1) will compete against Ball State and Xavier with action getting underway at 6 p.m.
Marshall will go against the host Jaguars, Western Illinois and Saint Louis on Saturday. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
This will be the first action for Marshall in over month. It last competed in the three day Miami Invitational Nov. 29 – Dec. 1.
“We are eager to get back to racing," first year head coach Bill Tramel said. “I thought we did not perform up to our potential at our last meet, the Miami Invite. We have done a tremendous amount of work and team building since then.”
Three of the five teams the Herd will compete against over the next two days will be first time meet opponents (IUPUI, Saint Louis, WIU). Ball State holds a 3-0 edge over MU in meet action while the Herd is 6-3 against Xavier, including a win in the previous match-up last season against the Musketeers, 157-105.
The top swimmer so far this season for the Herd has been Kacey Preun. The sophomore has collected a team-high eight individual wins, including two each in the 500-yard and 1000 freestyle.
Lauren Rone has been the top performer on the diving board for the green and white. A three-time winner this season, the senior broke the school record in the one-meter event earlier this season while also qualifying for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships for the third time of her career.
“We have talked about our goals and what we want to accomplish and really focused ourselves,” Tramel said about his team. “I see so much potential in these young ladies if they will just let it out. Hopefully, this weekend will be successful and they can gain confidence heading into the final stretch of our season.”
Live scoring is available each day and can be accessed from HerdZone.com.
