HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – The Marshall swimming and diving team will kick off the spring portion of its 2013-14 schedule in a dual meet with Duquesne at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium.
The Thundering Herd faces the Dukes for the sixth time, holding a 3-2 advantage in the series, with a 1-1 record at home. The two squads last met in 2013, when the Dukes defeated Marshall 138-124 in Pittsburgh.

HAVE YOU HERD?
The Marshall swimmers had a very strong performance at the Zippy Invitational in Akron, Ohio, to conclude competition in the fall semester. Second-year coach Bill Tramel dubbed it the best meet since his arrival at Marshall. In total, the Thundering Herd set two school records and amassed 14 All-Time Top-10 performances and 14 lifetime bests.
The Herd returned to campus for a week of practice after spending 10 days training in Clearwater, Fla., over the winter break.
SCOUTING THE DUKES
Duquesne has a 4-2 dual meet record. The Dukes started the new year with a third place finish at the FIU Sprint Invitational. In the 10-team event, senior Meghan Smith scored 72 of her team’s 387 points and earned first-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard individual medley. She also placed second in the 100-yard butterfly and fourth in the 50-yard breaststroke.
Sophomore Samantha Ray also contributed a solid performance, accounting for 54 points. She secured one second place and one fourth place finish, as well as two eighth place finishes.
Marshall will travel to Bowling Green, Ky,. for a two-day meet against Cumberlands, Vanderbilt and Western Kentucky. The action begins Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. and resumes Jan. 25 at noon.
