Marshall Swimming/Diving Honored for Academics
CSCAA honors Herd

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -The Marshall swimming/diving team has been honored by the College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for its outstanding academics during the fall semester.
The Herd earned All-Academic Team honors after tying for 26th overall with a 3.44 grade point average. That figure was the highest in Conference USA, with Tulane checking in just one spot lower at 3.43.
"This team's academic accomplishment is what I am most proud of,” Marshall head coach Bill Tramel said. “Let's be honest, so few swimmers and divers can make a living as a pro athlete. They have to prepare themselves for the chapter in their life that comes after their athletic careers.
“The Marshall women understand this. It isn't easy. We have nursing students, business students, education students. Some of these majors have very intensive practicum. Sometimes they must make sacrifices, adjust practice schedules, take evening classes, but we find a way to balance all of it.
“Make no mistake, our goal is to win in the pool. However, it will not come at the expense of our academics."
Herd swimmers Kaley Gregory (1,000 Free) and Danica Ross (50 Free, 100 Free), and diver Lauren Rone (platform) set or tied school records, and the team overall set several personal bests at the 2013 Conference USA Swimming/Diving Championships last month in Houston.
