HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Kelly Toner, a diver from Fort Washington, Pa., will transfer to Marshall from Rider University, Thundering Herd swimming/diving coach Bill Tramel announced Monday.
As a freshman last season, Toner placed fourth on the 1-meter board and fifth on the 3-meter at the 2014 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships. She also qualified and competed in the 2014 NCAA Division I Zone A Championships, where she was Rider’s highest-placing diver in both events.
"I am happy to be representing the Thundering Herd for the next three years,” Toner said. "I see so many opportunities that Marshall offers, and those will allow me to reach my goals, both in the pool and the classroom."
In high school, Toner was a two-time Pennsylvania state championship qualifier for Upper Dublin High. She placed 13th on the 1-meter board at the 2013 PIAA State Championships in her senior year.
"We are thrilled to add Kelly to our incoming class, now totaling 13," Tramel said. "Diving is critical for our success in Conference USA. Adding an experienced diver like Kelly not only strengthens our diving program, but our entire swimming and diving team."
Toner will have three years of NCAA eligibility at Marshall.
