Marshall Swimming and Diving Earns C-USA Academic Award

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –
The Marshall swimming and diving team earned the 2016-17 Conference USA Sport Academic Award for the fourth consecutive year, the league announced Tuesday.

 
The Thundering Herd boasted a 3.594 grade point average for the 2016-17 academic year. The program featured 29 student-athletes on the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll, while 13 student-athletes received the C-USA Academic Medal.
 
The Sport Academic Award is given to the team in each conference-sponsored sport with the highest GPA for the academic year. Eight different Rice teams recorded the highest GPA for their respective sports. Additionally, Florida Atlantic, UTSA, Middle Tennessee, South Carolina, Charlotte and Marshall were recognized.
 
The Herd also received Scholar All-America Honors earlier this year from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for having a 3.63 GPA of the spring semester and a 3.65 GPA in the fall. Marshall’s fall GPA ranked fifth amongst NCAA Division I women’s swimming and diving programs, while its spring GPA ranked 13th.
 
Marshall has earned the accolade five times previously (2015-16, 2014-15, 2013-14-tied, 2006-07, 2005-06). Other Herd programs to win in previous seasons are volleyball (2014-15), women’s soccer (2011-12, 2010-11), women’s golf (2008-09, 2007-08, 2006-07), men’s soccer (2006-07), men’s cross country (2006-07) and softball (2005-06).
