HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Following a week off from competition, Marshall’s swimming and team will jump back into the water on Saturday as it hosts Radford for a meet starting at 11 a.m. inside Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium.
The Thundering Herd (1-0) picked up its first win of the Bill Tramel era two weeks ago at home against Youngstown State, 175-121.
Against the Penguins, Marshall won 11 of the 16 events, including six of the first seven. Lauren Hurd picked up her first career wins as she touched the wall first in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle events. Sarah Kay collected a trio of victories as she was first in the 100 butterfly, 200 fly and 200 individual medley.
Additional highlights against YSU included Madison Lawhorn continuing her strong start to the season with her second straight win in the 100 breaststroke and the Herd’s relay teams taking home first place in both relay events.
With the victory, Marshall improved to 11-0 all-time against the Penguins. The Herd can accomplish the same record against the Highlanders with a win on Saturday.
Radford enters Saturday with a 3-1 record and 2-1 in conference (CCSA). Wins against North Carolina A&T and UNC Asheville were in-conference while their third win against Brenau was out-of-conference. The Highlanders suffered their lone defeat to Campbell last weekend.
Admission is free to Saturday’s meet. Stay tuned to HerdZone.com following the meet for a recap and results.
