IRVING, Texas – For the second straight week, Marshall diver Lauren Rone has been named Conference USA Diver of the Week.
Rone swept both diving events for the second consecutive week and in doing so broke the school record in the one-meter in back-to-back meets.
“I’m really proud of her,” Thundering Herd diving coach Jim Zagaria said about his diver’s back-to-back awards. “Pretty much since February of 2011 to now she has worked her butt off every day, giving up weekends, vacations and summers and it’s really validating all of that hard work.”
In the one-meter, her score of 292.80 was nearly 10 points better than her previous week’s score. It is her third win in four tries this season in the event.
While in the three-meter she set her new personal best with a mark of 275.70. It was her second straight win in the event and the fifth best score all-time among Herd divers.
“She trains year round, weightlifts year round, she has changed her whole diet in the past two years and she has pretty much devoted everything to this year,” Zagaria added. “This (award) is kind of even more validation that hard work pays off.”
This is the senior’s third such award of her career.
Marshall swimming and diving takes a few weeks off from competition before hit the road for the first time in Oxford, Ohio for the Miami Invitational. The meet is from Nov. 29 – Dec. 1.
