Herd Swim Team Fills Void by Signing Sprinter

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. ? Marshall Head Swimming Coach Leonard Kraus has announced the signing of Emily Edmonson, a senior at Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga, Tenn., for the 2003-04 season.

Thus far in her high school career, Edmonson contributed to two state champion 200-yard freestyle relay teams and two second place 200-yard medley relay teams. Her highest individual finishes at the Tennessee state meet include fifth place honors in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events, and in the 100-yard butterfly.

?Signing Emily is extremely exciting,? Kraus said. ?Not only does she give this team its first true sprinter, which will fill our biggest weakness, but she is also a John Marshall Scholarship recipient. I would be hard pressed to find a better combo.?

Edmonson was named team MVP at Girls Prep and is a High School All-American. Her academic accolades include her membership in Beta and the National Honor Society.

The team recently signed Bethany Jensen, a diver from Greentown, Ind., to close out its early signing period commitments.

?With Emily and Bethany, I believe we have had a very successful signing period,? said Kraus.
