HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Rachael DePietro of Lancaster, Pennsylvania has signed a National Letter of Intent with Marshall, coach Bill Tramel announced Wednesday.
As a junior, DePietro was a Consolation Finalist at the 2013 Pennsylvania High School State Championship for Lancaster Catholic High School. She swims for Mike Swanson at Diplomat Swim Club.
“Casey Coble, one of my former swimmers at Chapel Hill and a coach in the Lancaster area spoke highly of Rachael,” said Tramel. “Rachael and her dad came down to visit in August and we immediately knew we wanted Rachael at Marshall.”
DePietro has best times of 59.02 in the 100 backstroke, 53.95 in the 100 freestyle, and 25.02 in the 50 freestyle. Both of DePietro’s parents were swimmers at Villanova University. Her twin brothers currently play Division I football. Bobby is a linebacker at Lafayette and Adam is an offensive lineman at Northwestern.
“Rachael is a tall backstroker, who comes from an athletic family,” Tramel added. “We have put together a great backstroke group for next year and she will be a big part of that group.”
Speaking of her signing with Marshall, DePietro said, "I chose Marshall University because of the coaching staff, academics and my future teammates. It is a perfect fit for me, and I'm looking forward to working hard and winning championships!”
DePietro is the sixth member of the Marshall swimming and diving recruiting class of 2014.
