HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall swimming and diving will hit the road for the first time this year as it heads to Oxford, Ohio for the 19th annual Miami Invitational.
The three day event begins Thursday at 6 p.m. There will be two sessions each on Friday and Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Miami University’s Nixon Aquatic Center will play host to the eight team event.
The Thundering Herd (2-1) will be competing with Denison, Cincinnati, Wright State, Emory, Urbana, Western Kentucky and the host Redhawks.
Bill Tramel’s squad suffered its first loss of the season last time out. MU fell to SEC foe Vanderbilt at home Nov. 10, 163-124.
The Herd has been receiving a strong boost from sophomore Kacey Preun. She went 3-for-3 against the Commodores to give her six victories in the past two meets and a team high eight this season. She has won at least one event in each competition Marshall has participated in this year. The sophomore has also won at least one event in 13 of the 14 regular season meets she has been with the Herd.
Junior Madison Lawhorn has also been a steady performer in the pool. She too has won at least one event in each meet this season. Most recently she touched the wall first in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Diver Lauren Rone has been performing well on the board. She has qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships this year and broken the school record in the one-meter event.
