Assistant coach Kellie Schmitt begins her fourth year at Marshall. The former Thundering Herd tennis phenom Kellie Schmitt was hired prior to the start of the 2012-13 season.

The three-time Marshall captain and C-USA Player of the Year was selected First-Team All-C-USA in each of her four seasons as a player and holds five Herd records, including 127 career victories that rank her first in Marshall tennis history.

"Her ability from having played at such a high level will make her a great assistant for years to come," coach John Mercer said. "It's awesome to have her back with us."

Schmitt returned to Huntington after spending three years as the assistant coach at Joey Blake's Topnotch Tennis Academy in Scottsdale, Ariz., where she helped coach and develop student-athletes who were nationally ranked in the top-10 and top-50 of their age divisions. In her spare time, she also traveled across the country to hold high performance tennis camps for the U.S. Tennis Association.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Schmitt also worked in other tennis interests, including time as a professional at the Pittsburgh Field Club, Oxford Athletic Club, and Club for Life.
