MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Marshall University women's tennis team swept all singles to rally past No. 75 Middle Tennessee State for a 5-1 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Nashboro Village Tennis Court.
The Herd faced an early deficit as MU dropped two of three doubles matches. Marshall's No. 1 doubles team of Michaela Kissell and Dominika Zaprazna were successful in their match with a decisive 8-2 victory.
Kissell would carry that momentum into first singles where she made quick work of MTSU's Carla Nava, blanking her in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Zaprazna followed that up in second singles with a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) triumph over Natalie Araya. Positions three through five were all decided by scores of 6-2, 6-2 with Isabell Raich, Catherine Kellner and Deanna Bailey registering wins for MU.
"We played very well after doubles," Head Coach John Mercer said. "They had a great crowd that was amped up after they got the doubles point, but we responded very well. I am excited for how we handled the situation on the road."
Marshall is now 11-0 on the season, continuing to improve upon its best start in program history.
MU continues action on the road next weekend as the Herd travels to New Jersey for a match with No. 44 Princeton.
