Tennis Suffers 6-1 Loss to No. 53 Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—Marshall tennis could not maintain its four match win streak, falling to No. 53 Indiana 6-1 Saturday afternoon.

The Herd lost the doubles point despite a 8-6 win from duo Karli Timko (Houston, Pa.) and Anna Pomyatinskaya (Sochi, Russia) at second doubles.

In singles action, only freshman Rachael Morales (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) was victorious, defeating the Hoosiers’ Kim Schmider 6-3, 2-6, (10-7).

Pomyatinskaya and fellow freshman Derya Turhan (Bad Salzuflen, Germany) fell in tiebreakers at second and fourth singles. Turhan and fellow German Dana Oppinger (Weingarten, Germany) faced nationally ranked players in #84 Sophie Garre and #102 Katie Klyczek, respectively.

The Herd travels to Hamilton, Ohio to face Miami (Ohio) Sunday for a 10 a.m. matchup. The Red Hawks are currently 6-2 on the season.

Marshall is now 7-3 and remains No. 59 in the ITA rankings.
