@Herd_Tennis Rallies to Defeat ODU
The Herd dropped the doubles point but won four singles matches
NORFOLK, Va. — The Marshall women’s tennis team won its second consecutive match Sunday afternoon, defeating the Old Dominion Lady Monarchs, 4-3, at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
The Herd dropped the doubles point for the second time in its last three matches. Maddie Silver and Anna Pomyatinskaya opened doubles play with their second straight doubles win, defeating Holly Hutchinson and Ingrid Vojcinakova, 6-1. Derya Turhan and Marija Bogicevic fell to Adriana Rajkovic and Natalya Malenko, 6-3. ODU clinched the doubles point when Stephanie Smith and Rachael Morales fell to Borislava Botusharova and Marijana Novakovic, 6-4.
For the first time this season, the Herd won when it dropped the doubles point. Marshall won four of the six singles matches for the second consecutive match. Morales opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Nataliia Vlasova. Pomyatinskaya fell to Vojcinakova, 6-1, 6-3. Turhan improved to 3-0 against nationally ranked opponents with a 6-3, 6-2 win over No. 84 Hutchinson. Smith had her six-match win streak snapped by No. 89 Botusharova, 7-5, 6-2. Silver defeated Eliska Petrackova, 6-4, 6-4. Daniela Dankanych clinched the match for the Herd with a 7-6, 0-6, 7-5 win over Rajkovic.
