Zaprazna Sets Doubles Mark in Herd's 4-3 win at UNLV

LAS VEGAS, Nevada-Marshall’s Dominika Zaprazna and Kara Kucin fought off two match points to take a 9-8 win at No. 1 doubles to clinch the doubles point in the Herd’s 4-3 win over UNLV Saturday afternoon.

Marshall improved to 8-8 on the season with the victory.

With the win, Zaprazna earned her 110th career doubles victory, moving her to the top of the school’s all-time doubles records, ahead of current assistant coach Kellie Schmitt (2005-09).

The Herd’s Karlyn Timko clinched the overall match when she won another marathon affair in three sets (6-4, 0-6, 6-4) at No. 6 singles to salt away her ninth-straight singles victory.

Timko and Dana Oppinger won 8-5 at No. 3 doubles as well. Ellie Ball and Maria Voscekova dropped the No. 2 doubles match by a 8-2 score.

Before Timko’s singles triumph, Kai Broomfield won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 4 and Kucin picked up a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 5. Zaprazna (6-1, 6-4) fell at No. 1, Oppinger (6-1, 6-2) dropped No. 2 and Voscekova (6-3, 6-4) suffered a loss at No. 3.

The Herd will face SMU in Las Vegas at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
