LOUISVILLE, Ky. - After dropping the doubles point, the No. 41 Marshall University women's tennis team dominated singles action with all six MU players winning in straight sets, as the Thundering Herd topped Louisville 6-1 on the Cardinal's senior day at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in Louisville.
"I thought we did a good job of bouncing back after they took the doubles point," head coach John Mercer said. "It was senior day so Louisville was pretty pumped up. But we did a good job of playing with intensity in singles and maintaining it throughout the match. It's nice to get back on the winning side, and hopefully we can continue it on Friday at home."
The Herd won first doubles with the duo of Isabell Raich and Dominika Raich defeating Villajuan/Harris, 8-2. This was the first time Raich and Zaprazna have played as a pair this season. Louisville won second and third doubles to earn the doubles point.
Turning to singles, the Herd made quick work of the Cardinals as MU recorded its 13th win of the season.
No. 30 Michaela Kissell dropped just one game in first singles en route to a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Sarah Miller. She and Catherine Kellner each accumulated their 15th victory of the season as Kellner defeated Kaysara Mandry in fourth singles 6-2, 6-2.
Zaprazna won second singles and Raich in third singles, while Deanna Bailey and Kristina Koprcina rounded out the roster with wins from the fifth and sixth slots, respectively.
The win ended Marshall's three match losing streak and is now just one win shy of tying last year's win total of 14.
The Herd opens play on campus this Friday at the Brian David Fox Tennis Courts when the Monarchs of Old Dominion pay a visit to Huntington. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
