Doubles Shine in Loss to No. 26 Tulsa

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Marshall's tennis team swept the doubles competition, but lost all six singles matches in a 6-1 loss to 26th-ranked Tulsa on Saturday in Louisville, Ky.
The 74th-ranked Thundering Herd fell to 11-9 on the season and 1-1 in Conference USA. The Golden Hurricane improved to 16-3 overall and 4-0 in the conference.
All three doubles matches were won by Marshall convincingly. The No. 1 doubles team of Ellie Ball and Kara Kucin and the No. 2 team of Karlyn Timko and Kai Broomfield each won 8-4. The No. 3 tandem of Kristina Koprcina and Maria Voscekova won 8-3.
"I thought we did a good job and played well in our doubles, but Tulsa was just too tough in singles," said head coach John Mercer.
In No. 1 singles, Tulsa's Anastasia Erofeeva defeated Voscekova 6-1, 6-1 and TU's Samantha Vickers beat Kara Kucin6-1, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. Ball and Koprcina each played their opponent close as Ball fell 6-4, 6-4 in No. 3 singles and Koprcina lost 6-3, 6-3 in No. 4 singles.
TU's Michelle Farley defeated Timko 6-1, 6-1 in No. 5 singles while Maria Sant'Anna beat Broomfield 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 6 position.
Marshall will next be in action on Sunday, April 15, as it hosts Big East Conference member Cincinnati at 12 p.m. It will be the last match of the regular season for the Herd.
