Sept. 29, 2012
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif.- Marshall tennis player Dominika Zaprazna fell 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, to Erin Stephens of Ole Miss in the singles Pre-Qualifying round of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships on Saturday morning.
The Marshall senior battled back from a loss in the opening set to knot things up 1-1 heading into the third and final set, but after starting strong was unable to maintain the pressure as she fell to Stephens by three games. With the loss, Zaprazna was eliminated from the singles portion of the tournament, but still drew the praise of her coach for being selected to participate in the event from the start.
"Dominika lost a tough one," said head coach John Mercer. "Her opponent was solid, and Dom just couldn't keep it together at the end of the third set. It was really good for her to hang in there, though, and she competed at a high level. It's good that she was chosen to be here."
The Bratislava, Slovakia, native will now await the doubles Qualifying round, which she will begin on Tuesday alongside sophomore partner Maria Voscekova.
