Oct. 7, 2012
WILLIAMSBURG, Va.- The Marshall University women’s tennis team was without three of its top five players as it competed in the Tribe Invitational at William & Mary this past weekend, coming away with a third-place doubles finish to show for its efforts.
With last season’s No. 4 Kara Kucin out injured, and No. 1 and No. 2 Dominika Zaprazna and Maria Voscekova recovering from a long week of action at the ITA All-American Championships in California, a limited Thundering Herd squad took to the court for three days of singles and doubles action in Williamsburg.
Karli Timko and Kai Broomfield both won their opening singles matches, but fell in their respective Saturday semifinals to leave the Herd resigned to consolation matches for the remainder of the tournament. Broomfield and Ellie Ball were victorious in the first round of doubles play, but fell in the semifinals before redeeming themselves with a third place win over William & Mary's Vulovich and Lee on Sunday.
