Herd Falls to UVA in ITA Semifinal
Zaprazna and Voscekova Bow Out after Impressive Run
Oct. 23, 2012
BLACKSBURG, Va. -- After stringing together a series of impressive wins over the course of the weekend, Marshall tennis’s No. 1 doubles tandem of Dominika Zaprazna and Maria Voscekova fell 8-5 to UVA’s Erin Vierra and Maci Epstein in the semifinals of the ITA Atlantic Regional.
The Thundering Herd duo defeated teams from Virginia Tech, VCU, and William & Mary before falling to UVA in the semifinal round. Their progress marked the furthest advancement of a Marshall doubles team since Zaprazna and Michaela Kissell teamed up to make the finals in 2010.
The Marshall pair was the last remaining competitor for the Herd in this year’s regional tournament after the other ladies were knocked out in previous rounds. Overall, though, it was a solid showing from the squad as it continues to prepare for the upcoming spring season. Only UVA and Penn State had more representatives in the latter stages of the event.
The Herd tennis team will now await the start of the Kitty Harrison Invitational at UNC’s Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center from Nov. 9-11.
