IRVING, Texas - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its national and regional rankings for the spring 2010 season and the Marshall University women's tennis team is well represented.
MU, coming off a very strong fall season which was highlighted by sweeping each flight in singles and doubles at the Hokie Fall Invitational, starts to 2010 season ranked No. 66 nationally. They are the third-highest ranked Conference USA team behind SMU (No. 23), and Tulsa (No. 36).
Junior Michaela Kissell holds the highest national ranking in C-USA as she is No. 35. Kissell is ranked fourth among players in the Atlantic Region. Catherine Kellner, who was a stellar 18-6 last spring as a sophomore, is ranked No. 10 in the Atlantic Region. Freshman Dominika Zaprazna is ranked fifteenth, and junior Isabell Raich rounds out Herd players ranked in the region as she is No. 19.
In doubles pairing, Kissell and Zaprazna rank No. 14 nationally. They are on spot ahead of SMU's duo of Marta Lesniak and Pavi Francis. The tandem of Kissell and Zaprazna won the ITA Atlantic Regional in the fall and were participants in the NCAA Intercollegiate Indoor Championships. The team of Kellner and Raich are ninth in the Atlantic Region.
The Herd opens the new decade on Jan. 23rd, when it plays host to Morehead State at 2 p.m.
