CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- Herd tennis finished up the final day of the UVa Winter Invite with two doubles victories and two single wins.
"Having yesterday under our belts helped us," coach John Mercer said. "We made a big improvement today and we were more relaxed and more confident on the court. We took two of three doubles from Tennessee, which is very impressive."
The German duo of Dana Oppinger (Weingarten, Germany) and Derya Turhan (Bad Salszuflen, Germany) defeated Joanna Henderson and Eve Repic of Tennessee 6-3. The win was the first of Turhan's career at Marshall.
Kai Broomfield and Rachael Morales continued their winning ways, downing Laurence Guevremont and Brittany Lindi (UT) 6-4.
Freshman Anna Pomyatinskaya (Sochi, Russia) earned her first collegiate victory by defeating Olga Terteac of VCU by scores of 3-6, 6-4, and 10-6. Freshman Anne Gulsrud (Stavenger, Norway) beat the Volunteers' Ashlee Boles (6-2, 6-4) to earn another Herd victory.
All seven members of the Herd squad competed in singles action.
The Herd will return to action Monday to face a top-15 ranked UVa team.
"We are definitely looking forward to playing them and getting that experience to strengthen our team," Mercer said.
