HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marshall's 2013 tennis season and rivalry with West Virginia continues Saturday at 1 p.m. as the Thundering Herd travels to Morgantown, W.Va. for a match against the Mountaineers.
Marshall (2-0) looks to remain perfect on the season while keeping West Virginia (0-1) winless. The Herd has been triumphant in the 11 previous meetings, including 7-0 sweeps in four of the last five.
The doubles duo consisting of Herd junior Karlyn Timko and freshman Dana Oppinger lead Marshall in both singles and doubles. At two doubles, the pair posted an 8-5 victory in Marshall's win against Eastern Michigan last Friday before sweeping Morehead State 8-0 later that evening.
In singles action, Timko and Oppinger are yet to drop a set this season.
In WVU's only test of the year, the Mountaineers fell to No. 57 Ohio State 6-1. Despite a win at two doubles from seniors Emily Mathis and Audrey Wooland, freshman Hailey Barrett provided WVU's lone point with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at the three singles spot.
Marshall senior Dominika Zaprazna, in search of her 60th career singles victory, will face Wooland in Saturday's match at the Ridgeview Racquet Club. Wooland gave No. 41 Kelsey Dieters a scare at one singles last week when she took the first set and led late in the second against Ohio State's number one.
