Tennis Grabs Two Wins at Home

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University tennis team defeated Wright State, 7-0 and Morehead State, 6-1 in the first home contest for the Herd this season.

In the Morehead State match the Herd only gave up one point. At No. 1 doubles, Jessica Johnson and Ashley Kroh defeated Sheenagh Stewart and Karla Zaldo, 8-0. In the No. 2 spot Meghan Skalsky and Danielle Hock defeated Alexandra Bedka and Kelly Williams, 8-3. At No.3 doubles Alice Sukner and Olivia Hill defeated Ariana Gracia and Georgia Vanos, 8-3.

In singles action Johnson defeated Stewart 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot. In the No. 2 position Alice Sukner defeated Bedk 6-0, 6-1. Good claimed the No. 3 position by defeating Zaldo 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. Lille Nzudi defeated Williams 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 4 singles. At No. 5 singles Kroh defeated Vanos 6-0, 6-1. Ariana Garcia claimed the only match for the Eagles by defeating Isabelle Anderer 6-1, 6-3.

Against Wright State the Herd swept all the matches. At No. 1 doubles, Johnson and Kroh defeated Kara Dunbar and Gloria Montero, 8-0. In the No. 2 spot Skalsky and Nzudi defeated Marie Craig and Kyana Jackson, 8-2. At No.3 doubles Alice Sukner and Joelle Good defeated Maggie Jacobs and Melissa Dunham-Freer, 8-0.

In singles action Johnson defeated Dunbar 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot. In the No. 2 position Alice Sukner defeated Dunham-Freer 6-0,6-0. Good claimed the No. 3 position by defeating Montero 6-2, 6-4. Nzudi defeated Jackson 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 4 singles. Kroh defeated Craig, 6-0,6-0 at No. 5 singles. At the No. 6 position Hock defeated Jacobs 6-2, 6-0.

The Herd’s overall record is now 2-3. They will be back in action February 23 when they will take on Pittsburgh and West Virginia University. The matches will be held at the Huntington Tennis Club in Barboursville and are slated for 11am and 3pm respectively.
