Feb. 18, 2014

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-- After sweeping both its opponents this past weekend (including Penn State- then No. 57), Marshall tennis moved into the latest ITA rankings at No. 70, as of February 18. The ITA, International Tennis Association, takes all 300 Division I Women's Tennis programs into account.

Entering into its fifth week of dual match action, the Herd has a 5-2 record, only losing to No. 47 Virginia Tech-then No. 52- and No. 39 Kentucky- then No. 40.

Marshall is led by lone senior Karli Timko (Houston, Pa.), who post a 6-1 singles record in the 2014 season. Freshman Anna Pomyatinskaya (Sochi, Russia) mirrors Timko's record, and the two have a 3-2 doubles record.

Five future Herd opponents also earned rankings in the latest poll- No. 37 Indiana, No. 47 VCU, No. 49 Utah, No. 66 Louisville, and No. 71 BYU.

In addition, four Conference USA teams appear in the rankings, with Tulsa and Rice at Nos. 23 and 24, respectively, and North Texas earning one spot higher than the Herd at No. 69. Tulane University rounds out the rankings with a No.75 spot.

Marshall heads to Minneapolis, Minn. this weekend to face Iowa State and Minnesota on February 22 and February 23.
