HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — After playing five consecutive road matches over the past three weeks, the Marshall women’s tennis team returns home for three matches in a three-day span. The Herd plays host to Cincinnati Friday, Conference USA foe Old Dominion Saturday and VCU Sunday.

The return home also marks the first three home outdoor matches for the Herd in 2018, after playing its only home match of the season indoors.

A LOOK BACK: FIU AND NORTH TEXAS
The Herd dropped its first two Conference USA matches of the season in the Lone Star State, falling to FIU in a neutral site match and North Texas on the road by identical 4-0 scores. Weather was an issue in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, of which Denton is a part of, causing many matches to go unfinished throughout the weekend. Stephanie Smith played a close match with No. 2 Andrea Lazaro of FIU, while Marija Bogicevic and Anna Smith won a doubles match against the Panthers.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
Cincinnati enters Friday’s match with a 7-4 record overall. The Bearcats split their first two American Athletic Conference matches, defeating Memphis and falling to Temple. Cincinnati will play two matches in Huntington this weekend, as the Bearcats will play VCU Saturday in a neutral site match. Cincinnati and Marshall have one common opponent this season. The Bearcats defeated Miami (Ohio), 6-1, while Marshall fell to the RedHawks, 5-2. Antonella Bramato has a six-match singles win streak for Cincinnati and the doubles pairing of Ioana Guna and Caroline Morton has a three-match win streak.

SCOUTING THE MONARCHS
Old Dominion enters Saturday with a 9-3 overall record and a 2-0 record in Conference USA. The Monarchs have conference wins over Florida Atlantic and Charlotte and have also posted marquee road wins at Virginia and VCU. This weekend’s road matches against the Herd and West Virginia (Sunday in Morgantown) mark the last time ODU will be on the road, as the Monarchs close the season with seven straight home matches and are also the host institution for the Conference USA tournament. ODU is currently ranked 35th and will be the third ranked opponent the Herd has faced.

SCOUTING THE RAMS
VCU enters Sunday with an 8-2 record and a current six-match win streak that will be put to the test against Cincinnati before facing the Herd. Five of the wins during the streak have come against teams from the Atlantic region, including three wins over Power Five opponents (Pitt, West Virginia and Maryland). VCU’s top two positions have combined to go 12-3 during the dual match season and its top doubles spot is 7-1.
