The Thundering Herd women's tennis team returns home after knocking off No. 66 ranked South Alabama Saturday to face a familiar foe in former Mid-American Conference rival Eastern Michigan.
The match against the Eagles is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at the Brian David Fox Tennis Center on campus.
Marshall (10-4) downed its first ranked opponent of the season Saturday in Mobile, Ala., as it handed South Alabama a 4-3 loss. Eastern Michigan came into the weekend 4-4 before a match with Xavier on Sunday.
The Herd and Eagles have a storied history dating back to Marshall's time in the Mid-American Conference from 1998-2005 before joining Conference USA in 2006. The Herd and Eagles met 12 times during Marshall's time in the MAC with the Herd leading the series 8-4. The teams met four times for the MAC Tournament title with Marshall coming away with wins in 2002, 2003 and 2004. The Eagles won in 2001.
Last season, Marshall defeated Eastern Michigan 7-0 in Ypsilanti, Mich.
The Herd has won 11-straight matches against Mid-American Conference schools and 45 of its last 46 against schools in the league.
After Monday's match, Marshall will bus to Athens, Ga., to take on the No. 32 ranked Georgia Bulldogs on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
If inclement weather comes into play, the match will be moved to the Huntington Tennis Club.
