HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -
The last time Marshall tennis players visited the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia something magical happened. The 2006 tennis squad will hope for similar magic Wednesday when it takes on the No. 24 ranked Georgia Bulldogs at 10 a.m.
In the summer of 2004, Jessica Johnson and Ashley Kroh made a run to the finals of the NCAA Doubles Tournament in Athens, this year the Herd will hope there is still some good luck left for the Green and White in Georgia when they battle the No. 24 ranked Bulldogs.
This is the second-highest ranked team of the year the Herd has faced. Kentucky was ranked 13 when the Herd faced the Wildcats in January.
The Herd enters the match with a record of 11-4 after knocking off Eastern Michigan 6-1 Monday even without No. 1 player Lynzee Kever in the lineup. Marshall knocked off its first ranked opponent in No. 66 South Alabama on Saturday.
Georgia is ranked No. 32 and is 6-6 on the season. Georgia has been ranked as high as No. 6 this season. The Bulldogs have three players ranked in the ITA top 100 in singles. Natalie Frazier is No. 22, Shadisha Robinson is No. 67 and Carolina Basu is No. 86. The Bulldogs also have the No. 8 and No. 58 ranked doubles teams.
Marshall climbed back into the rankings this week, moving up to No. 66 in the nation.
The match is set for a 10 a.m. start.
