ROCK HILL, S.C.- The Marshall University tennis team will seek its fifth straight victory when it heads to Winthrop University for a showdown with the host Eagles on Monday at 1:00 p.m.

The Thundering Herd is coming off a four-match, home winning streak and is 7-6 for the season, but will face a stern test from a 6-9 Winthrop team that is undefeated on its home court this spring. Most recently, Winthrop fell in a closely contested 3-4 match to No. 29 ranked Brown, but was able to rebound with a convincing 7-0 win over UNC Asheville on Sunday.

When the Herd faced Winthrop last season it fell 2-5 to the Eagles in Huntington, but junior Dominika Zaprazna and sophomore Maria Voscekova were the two players to manage singles wins for Marshall that day. This season, Winthrop and Marshall have both played Virginia Tech, Kentucky, and VCU, with both schools losing all of those matches aside from Marshall’s 4-3 win over the Hokies. Winthrop lost 2-5 to Virginia Tech in their matchup earlier this spring.

Following Marshall’s Monday match against the Eagles, the Herd will travel to Greeneville, N.C., for a 2:00 p.m., Wednesday match against C-USA foe East Carolina. Live stats during the Winthrop match are not available, but stay tuned to herdzone.com for updated stats and recaps following the conclusion of the 1:00 p.m. match.
