Women's Tennis Sweeps Rival West Virginia

Morgantown, W.Va.-Stepping out of conference to face in-state rival West Virginia University, the Marshall University women’s tennis team rolled to a 7-0 victory over the Mountaineers. With the victory, their sixth straight, Marshall improves to 14-7 on the year.

Marshall opened the match by sweeping their doubles matches and claiming the doubles point, the 14th consecutive match the Thundering Herd have opened by winning the doubles point. Jessica Johnson and Alice Sukner, in the number one position, cruised to an 8-5 victory over Melissa Day and Raynie Theis. A victory by Ashley Kroh and Lille Nzudie over Anna Marie Underwood and Jennifer Watkins in the number two position secured the doubles point for the Thundering Herd.

Danielle Hock and Meghan Skalsky completed the doubles sweep by winning in the number three position.

After completing the doubles sweep, Marshall won all six doubles matches without losing a set. In the number one position, Johnson defeated Day 6-3, 6-3 as Sukner defeated Courtney Howell 7-6, 6-1 in the number two position.

Kroh had the easiest victory of the day, defeating Underwood in the number four position, 6-0, 6-1. Other Thundering Herd victors include Hock in the number three position, Nzudie in the number five position and Joelle Good in the number six position.

Marshall will return to conference action this weekend when they travel to Toledo, Ohio, on Friday, April 18, to face the University of Toledo at 1:00 p.m. The Thundering Herd will then travel to Ypsilanti, Mich., to square-off against Eastern Michigan University in the regular-season finale. The Eagles are currently tied for first with the Thundering Herd in the MAC standings.
