HUNTINGTON, W.Va - The Marshall tennis team will play in the Hokie Fall Invite this weekend at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va. Play begins Friday and continues through Sunday with three singles and two doubles flights.
Virginia Tech, James Madison, Liberty, Radford and Virginia Commonwealth make up the Virginia schools participating in the tournament while ACC-newcomer Pittsburgh also makes the trip to Blacksburg.
"We're excited to build off of the success we had last weekend," commented coach John Mercer. "We are facing some stiff competition this weekend and I'm looking forward to see how our girls respond."
Sophomore Dana Oppinger (Weingarten, Germany) will open play for the Herd by facing Gemma Valls of Radford in Flight A singles at 10:30 a.m., on Friday while junior Kai Broomfield with take on Kimmy Borza of Pitt.
In Flight B singles bracket, senior Karli Timko (Houston, Pa.) will try to knock off Liberty's Cameron Richards at 11:30 a.m., on Friday while freshman Rachael Morales (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) will try to remain undefeated against Jacqueline Palmucci of James Madison.
Anne Gulsrund (Stavenger, Norway) will round things out for the Herd in the Flight C singles bracket by challenging James Madison's Ruxandra Andriescu at 10:30 a.m., on Friday.
The Herd will take part in the Flight A doubles bracket by teaming Tinko, who went 3-0 in doubles play last weekend in the Tribe Invite at William and Mary, with Gulsrud. Their doubles match will begin Friday at 9 a.m., when they face Yang and Hassey of Liberty.
