PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif.- Dominika Zaprazna and Maria Voscekova of the Marshall University women’s tennis team have embarked upon a week-long journey to the West Coast as they take part in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, hosted by UCLA at the Riviera Tennis Club from Sept. 29 to Oct. 7.
Marshall senior Dominika Zaprazna will be the lone representative for the Thundering Herd in singles play, participating in the Pre-Qualifying round on Saturday and Sunday. The pre-qualifier features a draw of 64 players, each of whom must win three consecutive matches if they hope to advance to the Qualifying round. Sophomore Maria Voscekova will be on standby as an alternate should any of the players dropout of the opening round.
The two Marshall ladies were also selected for the doubles Qualifying Round on Tuesday, where they will work in tandem to advance to the Main Draw next Saturday. Just like the singles tournament, the doubles qualifier will require a team to win three matches if it hopes to advance to the next stage.
Singles semifinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions from the Main Draw will receive automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships from Nov. 8-11 in Flushing, N.Y.
