Voscekova Earns a Spot in Singles Main Draw

NORFOLK, Va. - Freshman Maria Voscekova of the Marshall University tennis team won a pair of qualifying singles matches Thursday afternoon to earn a spot into the ITA Atlantic Regional main draw on the first day of action at Old Dominion University.


The Bratislava, Slovakia, native qualified for the main draw by outlasting Brooke Hawthorne of Howard (6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (3)), and then cruised past Emily Mathis of WVU in straight sets (6-2, 6-2).


Voscekova will continue singles action Friday morning when the singles main draw commences.


In the first round of the 64-team doubles competition, MU tandem Kristina Koprcina and Karlyn Timko fell to the Penn State pair of Bedard/Perrotta and were eliminated from the tournament.


Action at Old Dominion continues bright and early Friday morning and continues through Sunday afternoon.
