Nov. 2, 2017

The Marshall women’s tennis team begins its final tournament of the fall season Friday when it takes part in the CofC Classic.

This is the second consecutive year that the Herd will be participating in the CofC Classic, which takes place at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point, part of the College of Charleston’s athletic complex.

In addition to host institution College of Charleston, the Herd is joined by Winthrop and Samford.

WE MEET AGAIN
The Herd participated in the CofC Classic in 2016 and was joined by Winthrop, Samford and College of Charleston. The Herd captured a pair of singles flight titles (Derya Turhan and Maddie Silver) and set a team high with 20 match wins. The Herd also competed against College of Charleston and Winthrop during the 2017 dual match season, defeating the Big South Conference champion Eagles, 5-2, and falling to the Cougars, 4-3.

HAVE YOU HERD
The Herd sent four players to the ITA Atlantic Regional Oct. 13-17. Anna Smith fared the best out of the Herd’s singles players, reaching the round of 32. Stephanie Smith and Maddie Silver were eliminated in the round of 64. Both doubles pairs (Anna Smith/Maddie Silver and Stephanie Smith/Brooke Lashway) were eliminated in the round of 32.

SEE YOU AGAIN
The Herd will play Winthrop on the road during the spring dual match season. The match against the Eagles will take place on Apr. 14 with a time TBA.
