Nov. 14, 2013
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Madison “Maddie” Silver has signed a National Letter of Intent with Marshall, tennis coach John Mercer announced, Thursday.
Silver is the first tennis recruit to sign for the recruiting class of 2014. She will be eligible to play in the 2014-15 season for Marshall.
“Maddie is a great addition to our program,” Mercer said. “We have been watching her since she was 10 years old. She is a very good athlete that has had an excellent junior career. She plays an all-court game and has a great serve. However, we feel like her best tennis is still to come.
A native of Grand Rapids, Mich., Silver is a four-star recruit according to tennisrecruiting.net, which is a website that ranks the nation’s best tennis prospects. Her highest ranking on the site was 90 and has her featured as the fourth best player in Michigan.
“Being from Michigan, Maddie has many Big 10 schools recruiting her, but we all felt that Marshall was a perfect fit,” added Mercer. “We look forward to seeing Maddie in August.”
“Marshall has everything that I was looking for in a college,” Silver commented. “It is an excellent school. Coach Mercer and coach Schmitt are great coaches, who will help me take my game to the next level. I love the girls on the team, and they are all extremely talented. The program has a long tradition of success under coach Mercer. I feel very fortunate to be going to Marshall and could not be more excited to join the Herd and start my college career.”
