Herd Track and Field Ties For Meet Victory At Marshall Women's Classic

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—Marshall track and field tied for the most team points at the first ever Marshall Women’s Classic on Saturday afternoon at the Jeff Small Track at the Chris Cline Indoor Athletic Complex. Thundering Herd athletes individually won four events.

The Herd tied with Duquesne for 160 points on the day as the two schools share the meet victory. The two teams dominated most events, with Marshall and Duquesne athletes winning all but five events. The four other teams competing at the meet were James Madison, Morehead State, Radford, and Wright State.

Junior Hasana Clark took the first victory of the day as she won the weight throw with a best mark of 17.37 meters (57 feet). Senior Reneese Batson finished second in the event (17.05m/55 ft. 11.25 in.).

Two other victories came in field events, with sophomore Ericka Budd winning the shot put with a mark of 14.03m (46 ft. 0.5 in.). Sophomore Denisha West won the triple jump with a mark of 12.03m (39 ft. 5.75 in.).

Senior Naja Greer took first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.67.

Including the four victories, Herd athletes accounted for 22 top-five finishes on the day. Graduate senior HollyAnn Swann took second in the 3000-meter race with a time of 10:06.39 in her first official meet for the Herd.



Following the meet, 11 Herd athletes held top-10 marks in the Conference USA. West and Swann each hold the best time in their respective events.

The team hits the road for the first time this season when it travels to Bloomington, Indiana for the Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana. The two-day meet begins Friday, January 19.
