Day One Complete Results

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Shyra Molton, Asia Bange, and Alecia Daniels produced qualifying results Friday at the Gladstein Invitational as Marshall track and field wrapped up day one at Indiana.

Molton was one-tenth of a second away from breaking the Marshall record in the 60 meter dash, posting a time of 7.72 seconds.  Former Thundering Herd sprinter Delkira Maybin set the record of 7.62 in 2009.  Molton’s ninth place finish in the event helped her qualify for the final which will take place Saturday at 12 p.m.

Bange, who ran a personal best in the 60 meter hurdles, delivered a qualifying time of 8.99 seconds for a ninth place finish as well.  The freshman will be joined by senior Daniels in the final Saturday at 11:45 a.m.  Daniels won her heat with a time of 9.14 seconds for an 11th place finish overall.

“We had a solid day,” said Marshall assistant coach Lacee Carmon-Johnson.  “It was nice for the girls to get their feet wet on a banked track similar to what we will run on at conference.  We hope to carry today’s momentum into tomorrow.”

Senior Amber Pierson and sophomore Celia Leonard also set personal records in the 400m dash (57.64) and the mile run (5:18.70), respectively.  Leondard’s mark placed her in the top 20.

In the field events, sophomore Loren Dyer took eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.99 meters.  Senior Vanessa Jules finished fourth in the high jump (1.73m).

Events for the Herd will resume at the Gladstein Invitational on Saturday at 11 a.m.
