Herd Track and Field Finishes Gladstein Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—Marshall track and field competed strong at a highly competitive Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana University on Friday and Saturday. 18 schools competed at the meet including several power-five opponents.

The Herd recorded 13 top-10 performances during the two-day meet. Leading the way Saturday was two second place finishes. Freshman Brandy Elysee finished second in the 200 meter dash ‘fast section’ with a time of 24.76. Her time is now the second fastest 200m time in school history.

Junior Sarah Bever also finished second in the high jump with a top jump of 1.67 meters (5 feet 5.75 inches).

Saturday Results

Sophomore Ericka Budd followed up her win in the shot put at the Marshall Women’s Classic with a ninth place finish in Indiana, throwing a best mark of 13.75m (45 ft. 1.50 in.).

Sophomore Christianna Dogan finished 10th in the 600m run with a time of 1:39.44. Freshman Isabella Tremble finished 14th with a time of 1:46.46 in the event.

Freshman Josie Raines improved her collegiate best in the long jump to a mark of 5.54m (18 ft. 2.25 in.) in an 11th place finish.

In the 200m dash, senior Andrea Chidester finished 13th (26.25) and senior Breanna Hargrove finished 15th (26.35).



Both relay teams recorded strong finishes, with the 4x800m relay team finishing fifth with a time of 9:35.49. The time just missed the school record of 9:33.13 set in 1992.

The 4x400m relay team finished fifth with a time of 3:55.95.

Friday Results

The top individual placement came from senior Breanna Hargrove who finished sixth out of 20 runners in the 400-meter run with a time of 58.28.

The duo of Reneese Batson (eighth-17.64m) and Hasana Clark (ninth-17.04m) each recorded top-10 finishes in the weight throw.

The first event of the day for Marshall athletes was the 3,000m, with graduate senior HollyAnn Swann leading in ninth place with a time of 10:15.82. Junior Adriana Cook followed in 11th with a time of 10:21.28. Freshman Mary Kerby finished 20th with a time of 11:27.44.

Senior Barkley Castro finished seventh in the 1-mile with a time of 5:17.42. Fellow senior Madeline Armstrong took 13th with a time of 5:33.81.

Sophomore Safiyyah Mitchell just missed out on the finals of the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.86, finishing in 10th. Freshman Taylor Robinson finished 12th with a time of 8.92. Sophomore Hannah Carreon finished 16th with a time of 9.12.

Leading the way in the 60m dash was junior Kayla Haywood who finished 12th with a time of 7.91. Senior Naja Greer finished 16th with a time of 8.05. Freshman Talor Wilkerson took 20th with a time of 8.15.

Sophomore Danere’a White took seventh in the 400m ‘fast section’ with a time of 59.59.


The team returns to action at home on Friday, January 26 for the two-day Thundering Herd Invitational. The meet begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Jeff Small Track at the Chris Cline Indoor Athletic Complex. Follow the team on Twitter @HerdTFXC for more information.
