Mitchell’s School Record Highlights Strong Performance for Herd at Liberty
16 top-10 finishes for Herd
LYNCHBURG, Va.—Marshall track and field concluded the two-day Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational hosted by Liberty University Saturday afternoon. The Thundering Herd recorded 16 top-10 performances, nine of which were top-five finishes.
Sophomore Safiyyah Mitchell won the 60 meter hurdles with a new school record time of 8.38. Her time broke Asia Bange’s previous record time of 8.42 set in 2016. Mitchell holds the fastest time in Conference USA this season by a significant margin, with Victoria Rausch of UTSA holding the second fastest time at 8.59.
Mitchell’s previous personal best time of 8.49 was set last weekend at the Thundering Herd Invitational, which was a meet and a facility record at the Jeff Small Track. She now holds the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational meet record with her time of 8.38.

On the first day of competition, the team had four athletes and relays compete, and all finished in the top-four of their respective events.
