HUNTINGTON, W.Va.--Marshall track and field won the Chipotle Marshall Invitational hosted Friday and Saturday at the Jeff Small Track at the Chris Cline Indoor Athletic Complex. The Thundering Herd took first place in the meet for the first time since the inaugural meet in 2015.

Marshall finished first out of 11 scored teams with a point total of 170. Second place West Virginia recorded 87 points.

Over the two-day meet, Marshall recorded four wins and an impressive 24 top-five finishes. Following Hasana Clark's win in the weight throw on Friday, sophomore Ericka Budd took the win in the shot put with a best throw of 14.13 meters (46 feet, 4.25 inches).

Sophomore Safiyyah Mitchell continued her strong run with a win in the 60 meter hurdles. She won the finals of the event with a time of 8.60. Her time of 8.41 in the preliminaries set a new meet record and broke her own facility record set at the Thundering Herd Invitational.

Senior Barkley Castro won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:16.07.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Christianna Dogan, Breanna Hargrove, Danere'a White, and Andrea Chidester won the final event of the meet with a time of 3:51.83.



10 events over the two-day meet featured multiple Herd finishers in the top-five. In the 200m dash, Marshall athletes placed five athletes in the top-seven.

The Herd hosted its final home meet of the season on Saturday. In the team's four home meets, The Herd won the dual meet versus Ohio and the Chipotle Marshall Invitational, tied for the win in the Marshall Women's Classic, and finished second in the Thundering Herd Invitational.

"I'm excited for conferences," head coach Jeff Small said. "I think that our team in all areas just had a really good meet. We've been battling the flu, and we hope to get everyone healthy to go down to Birmingham and hopefully have our best Conference USA Indoor Meet ever."
