CLEMSON, S.C. -
As an encore to setting a new school for two weeks running, senior Rachel Blankenship (Hurricane, W.Va.) was able to win the shot put event at this weekend's Tiger Invitational hosted by Clemson University.
Though her throw didn't best her school record, Blankenship was able to finish with an event best of 46 feet and four and ¼ inches.
For the second week in a row, sophomore Andrea Jackson (Sumter, S.C.) rewrote the school record books in the triple jump event with a leap of 40 feet and ½ an inch. Jackson finished ninth in the event.
Freshman Kristin Smith (Baltimore, Md.) tied her season best in the high jump, finishing third with a jump of five feet and four and ½ inches.
Rounding out the top ten finishes for the Thundering Herd include junior LaTricia Jones (Spartanburg, S.C.), who finished second in the weight throw (56 feet) and sixth in the shot put (42 feet and three and ½ inches).
Senior Britani Keeney (Proctorville, Ohio) finished fifth in the weight throw (53 feet and six and ¼ inches) and senior Quinnyana Brown (Amherst, N.Y.) placed seventh in the long jump (17 feet and 9 and ½ inches).
The Marshall University women's track team will be back in action Feb. 22-23 at the Virginia Tech Challenge in Blacksburg, Va.
